Ilana Shimoni | The Library at Chavat Gilad

Eight years ago, we received an old caravan from the neighboring town of Kedumim as a gift, which we renovated with help from friends of Havat Gilad in Israel and from Texans for a Safe Israel and other friends from around the world. We turned an old caravan into a library filled with books for children and adults. The library offers a wide range of fiction books and books on topics of culture and Jewish interest. There are also games in the library for children’s enjoyment. The library is located in the center of the town, and is a pleasant place to relax, read, and for parents and children to spend quality time together.

We always appreciate donations of funds for the library so that we may update our collection and perhaps one day move it from a caravan into a permanent building with better electrical wiring and more room for books, computer, and community meeting space.

Ilana Shimoni | A Sukkot Message from Chavat Gilad

Shana Tova from Chavat Gilad!
As the families in our community sit in our Sukkot, we are thinking with such joy and gratitude how Hashem is the One Who provides everything we need…and how it is only Hashem Yisborach, our blessed G-d, Who preserves any of us and keeps us safe. But we remember King David’s words in Psalm 118: Hashem is with me in my helpers.

Ilana Shimon with some of her children in their family Sukkah in Chavat Gilad in the Shomron (Samaria) region of Israel.
6The Lord is for me; I shall not fear. What can man do to me? ויְהֹוָ֣ה לִ֖י לֹ֥א אִירָ֑א מַה־יַּֽעֲשֶׂ֖ה לִ֣י אָדָֽם:
7The Lord is for me with my helpers, and I shall see [revenge] in my enemies. זיְהֹוָ֣ה לִ֖י בְּעֹֽזְרָ֑י וַֽ֜אֲנִ֗י אֶרְאֶ֥ה בְשֹֽׂנְאָֽי:
8It is better to take shelter in the Lord than to trust in man. חט֗וֹב לַֽחֲס֥וֹת בַּֽיהֹוָ֑ה מִ֜בְּטֹ֗חַ בָּֽאָדָֽם:

Sitting in our Sukkot, we take shelter in Hashem.

But since our kind friends have asked what we may need, I will tell you that before winter arrives…and the rain starts pattering on the windows…we must urgently pave the roads in the community.

  1. We would like to repair the entrance road to the community that was badly damaged last winter.
  2. We need to pave the road next to the daycare center, so that the residents can bring their children safely.
  3. We need to pave the roads that lead to the remote sections of the community so that residents can reach their homes.

We have received two price quotes and need $50,000 for this project. if any money is left, we will also pave the road that leads to the women’s mikveh.

With love for the land of Israel and its residents. With love and appreciation for the friends of Chavat Gilad all over the world.

Feel free to ask me any questions. Dedication opportunities are available.

May you be blessed!
Ilana Shimon
